Allison Harrington Walters, a graduate of UNC Pembroke, is owner and president of Speech Solutions, Inc., a speech pathology service provider offering speech and occupational therapy in over 10 counties. Allison earned her B.S. in elementary education in 1995 from UNCP and a master’s in education in Communication Disorders from N.C. Central University. She is a licensed speech language pathologist in North and South Carolina.
Before opening her business in 2003, Allison taught in the Public Schools of Robeson County for 4 1/2 years. She then founded Speech Solutions, Inc. and has since grown the business to six locations in southeastern North Carolina with offices in Lumberton, Pembroke, Laurinburg, Shallotte, and Whiteville and Elizabethtown with over 70 employees.
Allison is active in the community and has served on multiple boards, including the Robeson County Chamber of Commerce, LRDA Policy Committee, Robeson Road Runners and the Lumberton Local Advisory Board of First Bank. In addition, she chaired the NC Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists. She is currently a member of the Robeson County Community Foundation and sits on the board for Southeastern Integrated Services.
Allison remains dedicated to her alma mater. She has served on the UNCP Alumni Association’s board of directors, established the Allison P. Harrington, Martha Ann Floyd Powell Harrington and the Frank Harrington Endowed Scholarships and served on the vice chancellor for Advancement search committee in 2018. She is a member of the UNCP Lifetime Giving Society, UNCP Braves Club, and the Chancellor’s Club. She continues to enjoy attending and promoting as many charitable and social events for the Black and Gold as possible.
She has been honored with awards such as the 2015 Small Business Award from the Lumberton Chamber of Commerce, and the UNCP Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2014.
Allison, who is originally from Rowland, N.C., currently resides in Lumberton with her husband Daniel C. Walters, Jr. She has one son, Seth Harrington.
Allison was appointed to the Board in 2018 to fill an unexpired term. She was reappointed in 2025 to serve another 4 year term.
