About the Chancellor

Dr. Robin Gary Cummings has led UNCP since 2015 with a bold vision to transform lives through education. A physician, public health leader and proud member of the Lumbee Tribe,  Chancellor Cummings has championed access and affordability, expanded academic programs and strengthened the university’s role in North Carolina.

Strategic Leadership

The Office of the Chancellor provides strategic leadership for UNC Pembroke, guiding the university’s mission of education, research and regional impact. As the university’s chief executive, the chancellor serves as the primary liaison to the UNCP Board of Trustees, the UNC System Office and the UNC Board of Governors — advancing opportunities for growth, collaboration and student success.
At UNC Pembroke, effective governance is built on transparency, shared vision and strategic collaboration. Our governance bodies work together to guide policy, safeguard institutional integrity and fuel our mission of student success and community impact.

Chancellor’s Cabinet

The Chancellor’s Cabinet is UNC Pembroke’s senior leadership team, bringing together key campus leaders each week to discuss priorities, provide guidance and advise the chancellor on strategic, operational and policy matters that shape the university’s future.


Cabinet meetings provide a forum for collaborative leadership and open dialogue on issues that shape UNC Pembroke’s direction and impact. Topics may include:

  1. Strategic goals, direction and performance metrics

  2. Guidance to support the chancellor’s vision for the university

  3. Cross-divisional matters with campus wide significance

  4. Emerging risks and strategic indicators

  5. Legislative updates and initiatives from the UNC Board of Governors and UNCP Board of Trustees

Cabinet members also share updates on key priorities within their divisions, offer insights on major projects, and seek input on strategy and decision-making.

The Director of External Affairs and Community Relations serves as the liaison between the community and the university to foster good relations and open communication with civic and community-based organizations and the local business community. The director also works with the Board of Visitors
