Jim Hyler is a native of Danville, Virginia, and grew up on a small family tobacco farm nearby. He moved to North Carolina after graduating from Virginia Tech. As a first-generation college student, he earned his degree in accounting in 1970. Hyler enjoyed a successful public accounting, banking, and advisory career for 50-plus years.

After college, Mr. Hyler was recruited by Ernst & Ernst in Winston-Salem and specialized in bank auditing. In 1980, he moved to First Citizens Bank as chief financial officer. During his tenure with the bank, he served as president, chief operating officer, and vice chairman. Hyler then joined Investors Management Corporation as Managing Director before retiring in 2016.
Mr. Hyler is committed to public service, particularly healthcare and economic development. He has served as a board member of Rex Healthcare, UNC Health Care System, Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, North Carolina Rural Center, North Carolina Chamber and Duke Energy. He also serves on the Boards of Directors for Investors Management Corporation, Fleet Feet Sports, RiseMark Holdings, LLC, Peter Millar, LLC and Orlando Health.

First introduced to golf during college, Mr. Hyler became an avid golfer and has remained involved. He served on the United States Golf Association Executive Committee from 2004 to 2011 and was elected president from 2010 to 2011. During his tenure, he was instrumental in orchestrating successful U.S. Opens at Pinehurst Resort, Course No. 2.

Mr. Hyler is married to Natalie Hyler. They have two boxers and reside in Asheville, North Carolina, with a home in Pinehurst.
