About
Erik Tracy, PhD, received his undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University
of Buffalo in 2000 and his PhD in Cognitive / Experimental from the Ohio State University
in 2006. After graduating, Dr. Tracy was a lecturer at Ohio State until joining the
UNCP faculty in 2011. Presently, he teaches Introduction to Psychology, the History
and Systems of Psychology and Sensation and Perception.
Dr. Tracy also serves as the Chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and is
actively engaged in research. Specifically, Dr. Tracy is interested in speech perception
and how we perceive personal characteristics about talkers. For example, upon hearing
a talker's voice, how would a listener perceive the sexual orientation of the talker?
What information, within the speech signal, is the listener using? More recently,
Dr. Tracy has also investigated which personality traits listeners associate with
gay and heterosexual talkers.
In his free time, Dr. Tracy enjoys spending time with his family, going to the gym,
watching movies and collecting action figures.
