Dr. Naomi Lifschitz-Grant holds an EdD in Art and Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she also earned an MA in Art Education. She additionally received a Master of Arts in Education (MAE) in Instructional Leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her foundational studies in painting began at Brandeis University, and she was a fellow at the prestigious Yale Summer School of Art and Music in Norfolk.

With over eighteen years of experience teaching art across public and private schools in New York City, Birmingham, Alabama and Italy, Dr. Lifschitz-Grant has worked with students at every level — from preschool through high school. Prior to joining the University of North Carolina Pembroke (UNCP), she served as an instructor in the Art and Art Education program at Teachers College, Columbia University and at Bank Street College of Education in New York City. She also taught in the College of Arts + Architecture at UNC Charlotte, supervised student teachers and taught in the Department of Art at Appalachian State University.

Her research centers on the transformative role of the arts in education, particularly as a community-based strategy for school reform in urban and underserved settings. Her ongoing scholarship explores arts integration, culturally responsive pedagogy, educational standards, school-community partnerships and the arts as a catalyst for parent engagement and community building. She has presented her work at numerous national conferences and led workshops across the country.

In addition to her academic work, Dr. Lifschitz-Grant is an accomplished practicing artist. She has received multiple fellowships and participated in artist-in-residence programs at The MacDowell Colony, Millay Arts, Vermont Studio Center, A.I.R. Vallauris, Brisons Veor, Centre D’Art, Arad Arts Project and the Chautauqua Institute. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions in New York City at AIR Gallery and 55 Mercer Gallery.
