Where Campus
Meets Community

UNC Pembroke is proud to hold the Carnegie Foundation’s Classification for Community Engagement, a national recognition for colleges and universities that demonstrate a strong, ongoing commitment to serving their communities.

The Carnegie Foundation defines community engagement as the collaboration between higher education institutions and their broader communities—local, regional, national, or global—through partnerships rooted in shared knowledge and mutual benefit. These efforts enrich teaching, research, and public service, while preparing students to become engaged citizens and contributing to the public good.
