Course Evaluations

UNC Pembroke's online course evaluation is a survey officially approved by Faculty Senate, and the procedures are governed by the Faculty Handbook and Graduate Faculty Handbook at UNCP.

Every semester, the Student Evaluation of Instruction (SEI) and Graduate Course Analysis (GCA) are administered by the Office of Institutional Research. SEI is a university-wide survey of students' perceptions and opinions of the instruction they received, while GCA provides data on the effectiveness of graduate courses.

Access

UNCP students and instructors will receive notifications with the survey link when the evaluations are open for completion. The survey can also be accessed by logging in to the CourseEval® portal or in the Canvas® portal using the below links.

Instructions & FAQ for Faculty

You should already have MyCourseEval on your course Canvas.  If you do not see MyCoursEval, please refer to the PDF instruction provided above.

You will receive an announcement before the survey opens for you to verify all the courses subject to evaluation for the term.  We send reminders every three days during the course evaluation period until the survey closes.
After the final grades are posted and locked for each Spring, Summer, and Fall term.
You will see two surveys for each graduate course because both SEI and GCA are administered for all graduate courses.
SEI is student evaluation of instruction and GCA is graduate course analysis. SEI is administered to both undergraduate and graduate courses.  GCA is administered to graduate courses only.  SEI is a part of instructor performance evaluation while GCA is not.
Some courses are excluded from evaluations based on the policy.  Courses with zero responses are excluded from survey reports.

All students who are enrolled and registered for the course at the time of course evaluation database is updated for the term regardless of their grades or any current academic disciplinary actions taken against the student, which is usually three to four weeks before the end of the term depending on the type of courses.

The course will be evaluated once by students and each instructor will receive an identical evaluation for the course.

Cross-listed courses are evaluated individually.

No, the course evaluation is completely anonymous.

Instructions & FAQ for Students

If you do not see MyCourseEval on your course Canvas, contact your professor to add the link immediately.  If you have MyCourseEval on your course Canvas and cannot access course evaluation, please contact DoIt at 910 521 6260 immediately.
No, online evaluations may not be filled out once the survey is closed.
Yes,  you can change your answers while the evaluation is still open.  Once closed, you will not be able to change your answers.
You will see two surveys for each graduate course because both SEI and GCA are administered for all graduate courses.
No, this is not possible.  Instructors and TAs are not able to see their evaluation reports until they have turned in grades.  The evaluation reports they are provided contain aggregated information and no specific responses or ratings can be linked back to individual students.  Some instructors may choose to give participation credit to students for completing evaluations.  If this is the case, failing to complete evaluations for that course would mean losing the extra/participation credit offered for completing them.
Yes, even though the survey itself does not contain any respondent's identifying information, the instructors will be able to read the written comments.  Please be thoughtful as these are used for instructional development, and serve to help future students.
We send reminders every three days once the survey is open and until it closes as long as you have not completed them.  Once you complete a survey for a course you will no longer receive further reminders for that course.
Participation in evaluations is voluntary.  However, your feedback is a valued resource and essential for instructional development at UNCP.  Thank you for your participation.
