Meet the Tutors

Need help with writing? The Writing Center offers free support for all UNCP students at any stage of the writing process. Meet with a tutor in person or online to get help with brainstorming, organization, grammar, citations, and more.

If you are enrolled in an online course or cannot physically come to the Writing Center, you can make an appointment to meet with a tutor online. To do so, create an account on our appointment system. Once you have made an account, log in and click on a convenient appointment time. On the appointment page, choose to "meet online."

When it is time for your appointment, log into the appointment system again, click on your appointment, and follow the instructions there.

You will have the option to upload or paste documents and also to chat with your tutor. Both you and the tutor can make changes to the document you upload. At the end of the session, you may download the document to your computer. The document and the chat session will be available for you to view for the remainder of the semester. Abigail
Hello! This is my second semester as a tutor at the Writing Center, and I'm currently a senior in the English Department. I enjoy writing creatively and am working on a novel for my Senior Project. I work best with MLA formatting and also have experience with APA and Chicago formats. I'm skilled in brainstorming, sentence structure and formatting, and grammar. My goal is to help to the best of my abilities, and I can't wait!
Alyse

Hey! I’m Alyse (they/them), the assistant director of the Writing Center, a UNCP grad student, and an alum with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a concentration in Sociology.

My favorite part of tutoring is supporting students as they build their writing skills. I particularly enjoy working on research papers, brainstorming, organization, thesis development, and APA format, but I can assist with anything you need.

When I’m not in the Writing Center, I like to spend my time in nature, gaming, and engaging in creative hobbies. I look forward to working with you!

Anastasia

Hello! My name is Anastasia (she/they), and I am a senior History major with a minor in African-American Studies. Outside the writing center, my hobbies include reading, listening to music, and generally causing chaos.

This is my fourth semester with the writing center and first as the Lead Consultant! I am well-versed in Chicago and MLA formatting but am happy and willing to help you with any format. I am most experienced with research or argumentative style papers yet am ready to help you in any way I can. Can't wait to work with you!

Ixiamarie

My name is Ixiamarie (Eek-see-yuh-marie), and I'm a junior at UNCP. My major is Business Administration with a concentration in Management.

I'm Puerto Rican but grew up moving all over the U.S. because my mom is in the military, and I was born in Texas. In my free time, I enjoy painting and reading. I'm excited to help students who come to the Writing Center and be a part of their writing journey

Jana

Hello! My name is Jana Termos, and I'm a junior majoring in English with a Literary Studies emphasis and minoring in Art. I'm from Lebanon and lived there all my life until 2024, and I'm studying abroad in the UK this year.

Some of my hobbies are running, writing, photography, and baking. I specialize in MLA citations and can help mostly with that, but I'm also familiar with APA and Chicago. Looking forward to meeting you!

JP

Hey! My name is JP, and I'm a junior majoring in Social Work. I'm part of the UNCP Track and XC team. In my free time I love to listen to new albums and play games.

I love working with poetry, argumentative writing, research papers, and source searching. I specialize in APA, but I can work with your needs.

My favorite part about the writing process is piecing together the pieces of a paper. It's very satisfying when a paper flows into each of its pieces smoothly. I look forward to piecing your papers together, let's work

Kayla

Hello! My name is Kayla, and I am a senior majoring in Social Work. In my free time, I enjoy reading, painting, and traveling.

I love working with creative writing, argumentative, and research-based papers, but I am happy to help with all types of writing. I'm most knowledgeable in APA and MLA formats, but I am able to help with other formats as well.

Having struggled with dyslexia and ADHD, I understand the challenges that can come with writing, and I am happy to help you no matter what stage of writing you are at. I look forward to meeting you and helping you become a better writer!

Mart

Hey! My name is Mart, and I am a senior majoring in English with an emphasis in Literary Studies.

I truly enjoy working with creative writing papers and MLA format, but I am able to work on many different types of subjects, formats, and multimodal writing projects.

When I'm not in class or at the Writing Center, I enjoy mountain biking while listening to audiobooks or music. This is my first semester in the Writing Center, and I'm looking forward to seeing what we work on together!

Tyra

Hi everyone! My name is Tyra, and I’m a senior double majoring in Social Work and Psychology. Growing up, I developed a deep love for books, which naturally led me to fall in love with writing as well.

I’m confident in my ability to assist students with any formatting style, though I’m most familiar with MLA and APA. My strengths include helping students with organization, brainstorming, sentence structure, outlines, and citations.

I enjoy making complex concepts more approachable and guiding others through the writing process, whether they’re figuring out what to write, drafting their first paper, or fine-tuning their final version.

Having struggled with ADHD and anxiety throughout my life, I am patient and understanding when it comes to learning and supporting others. I know how intimidating the writing process can be, and I want to create a safe, judgment-free space for everyone. If you’re neurodivergent or have ever felt nervous about sharing your work, please feel free to schedule an appointment with me

Dr. Cindy McPeters

I loved my time as a writing center tutor in grad school so much that I wanted to work in a center professionally. Here at UNCP, I teach writing courses and manage the University Writing Center!

Although I'm not regularly on the tutoring schedule, I enjoy taking appointments when our peer tutors are busy and am eager to collaborate on your writing projects. If I don't know the answer, I will hunt until I find it!
