Our students take the stage early and often. Each season features three faculty-directed mainstage productions. Plus, SHOWCASE, a student-driven initiative where you can act, direct and design your own work. All backed by faculty mentorship and real production budgets. Here, you’ll take part in fully produced plays, musicals and dance concerts at the GPAC — a top-ranked performing arts center.

Theatre Arts
Step into the spotlight — or bring stories to life from behind the scenes. At UNC Pembroke, Theatre Arts majors gain hands-on experience in acting, design and production. From your first year on campus, you’ll learn by doing — on stage, in the studio and alongside expert faculty. Prepare for a career or further study. The stage is yours. Create boldly and make your mark.

Bring Stories to Life
The BA in Theatre Arts helps you grow as both a performer and theatre professional. You’ll study acting, stagecraft and design. Learn everything from Shakespeare and modern drama to lighting, costumes and set construction, then apply what you've learned to real stage experience with productions at the Givens Performing Arts Center.
From voice and movement to behind-the-scenes roles, this program gives you the skills to shine on stage or backstage. It’s a hands-on, creative degree that prepares you for careers in theatre, entertainment, education and more.
Minor in Theatre
A minor in Theatre is a powerful way to enhance your major and set yourself apart in the job market.
Through courses in acting, stagecraft and performance, you’ll sharpen your public
speaking, boost your confidence and develop creative problem-solving and collaboration
skills. These are the same skills that employers value in fields like education, business,
law, marketing, communications and beyond. Whether you’re stepping into the spotlight
or presenting in a boardroom, theatre gives you the presence and professionalism to
make an impact.

After UNCP

I’m still in shock even today! I’m very happy because I worked hard to get here. Many candidates were from larger performing arts programs and Ivy League schools. To be in the same room with them and then to be accepted proves that hard work does pay off. I credit UNCP’s theatre program with fostering my success.
