Financial Aid Benefits

Admission to the Maynor Honors College is independent of financial assistance. However, there are certain scholarship and funding opportunities that are exclusively tailored for Honors College students.

Esther G. Maynor Scholarship

Esther Graham Maynor was born and raised in Robeson County, the daughter of Duncan and Dovie Lowry Graham. She married Therod “Horse” Maynor, who served in World War II and later became business partners with Floyd Pike, co-founding Pike Electric in Mount Airy, North Carolina — now the largest electrical contractor in the Southeast. After Therod’s passing in 1967, Mrs. Maynor remained in Mount Airy.

Upon her death, Mrs. Maynor directed in her will that her Trust Estate — after specific distributions — be given to the Trustees of UNC Pembroke to establish the Esther G. Maynor Scholarship. This scholarship supports students who are:

  • Accepted to the Maynor Honors College, and

  • Demonstrate financial need.

Maynor Study Abroad Scholarship

Part of the Maynor Gift has been set aside to support study abroad opportunities. These scholarships are open to any UNCP student in good standing, though preference will be given to members of the Maynor Honors College.

The scholarships are designed to offset expenses associated with formal study abroad opportunities. The program abroad must result in college credit transferable to UNCP, and students must have a demonstrated financial need. Awards are typically valued at approximately $1000, depending upon the number of awards and available funds.

If you are interested and eligible for this scholarship, please contact Teagan Decker teagan.decker@uncp.edu.

Completed applications are typically due in March of each year.
