Esther Graham Maynor was born and raised in Robeson County, the daughter of Duncan
and Dovie Lowry Graham. She married Therod “Horse” Maynor, who served in World War
II and later became business partners with Floyd Pike, co-founding Pike Electric in
Mount Airy, North Carolina — now the largest electrical contractor in the Southeast.
After Therod’s passing in 1967, Mrs. Maynor remained in Mount Airy.
Upon her death, Mrs. Maynor directed in her will that her Trust Estate — after specific
distributions — be given to the Trustees of UNC Pembroke to establish the Esther G. Maynor Scholarship. This scholarship supports students who are:

First awarded to the entering honors class of 2007.

Open to incoming, first-year Maynor Honors College students.

Covers unmet financial need for tuition, fees, room and board, after other financial aid is applied.

Includes a book stipend.

Additional support for university health insurance may be requested in writing after the scholarship is awarded.

Requires an annual FAFSA submission to assess financial need.

Renewable for up to three additional years, provided the student:

Maintains financial need,

Stays in good academic standing,

Remains a full-time undergraduate, and
-
Continues to meet Honors College requirements.
