Understanding Your Cost of Attendance & Student Bill

A Guide for Students & Families

COA is the estimated total cost of attending college for one academic year. It includes direct costs (billed by the school) and indirect costs (not billed, but part of being a student).

COA Includes:

  • Tuition & Fees – Charges billed by the college.
  • Living Expenses (Housing and Meals) – Oncampus or estimated offcampus living costs.
  • Books, Supplies and Equipment – Textbooks, course materials and equipment.
  • Computer/Equipment Expenses – Computer expenses like paper, ink, etc.
  • Loan Fees – Fees that are incurred if a loan is taken out with Department of Education.
  • Transportation – Travel to and from campus.
  • Personal Expenses – Everyday items like toiletries, laundry, etc.

Important: COA is not your bill. It’s a planning tool used to determine your financial aid eligibility.

Note: If your family or student needs assistance, Financial Aid is ready to support you. We’re here to make sure you have the resources you need.

Your Bill Will Include:

  • Tuition
  • Mandatory Fees
  • Housing (if living on campus)
  • Meal Plan (if selected)

Your Bill Will NOT Include:

  • Books
  • OffCampus Housing
  • Transportation
  • Personal Expenses
  • Computer/Equipment Expenses
  • Loan Fees

These are still part of your COA, but you won’t see them on your bill.

  • Budget for indirect costs — they are real expenses even if not billed.
  • Set up direct deposit for faster refunds.
  • Check your student portal regularly for updates or missing documents.
