How Much Will I Earn?

In a work-study position, you'll earn a minimum of $12 per hour, with a typical award of $2,000 per year ($1,000 per semester). Payments are issued bi-weekly for the hours worked in the prior two-week pay period.

Your work-study award may be adjusted or canceled if you receive a new scholarship or grant.

Always review any revised award notices to check for changes in your work-study amount, and promptly inform your employer of any adjustments.

Can I Change Jobs?

Work-study positions usually require a commitment of at least one full semester, but some are for the entire academic year. Students work with their supervisor to establish a regular schedule of about eight to 12 hours per week that accommodates their class commitments.

During the semester, students typically begin work each semester during the first full week of classes and stop work on the last day of classes. Think of your work-study job as a chance to build a positive work record and gain resume-worthy experience.

If challenges arise, discuss them with your employer first. If you decide to resign, give your employer at least one week's notice. If issues remain unresolved after discussions with your supervisor, you can contact the work-study coordinator in the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.
