UNCP School of Education welcomes new advisory board members
Scotland County schools superintendent Takeda LeGrand has been elected chair of the School of Education Advisory Board at UNC Pembroke. Dr. LeGrand was among the new officers seated during last week’s meeting. Cumberland County Schools Superintendent Marvin Connelly was elected vice chair and Anita Alpenfels, executive officer for Human Resources with Moore County Schools, will serve as board secretary. Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings and Interim Provost Zoe Locklear were present to greet board members.
UNCP, Richmond Community College partnership strengthens teacher pipeline
A new partnership between UNC Pembroke and Richmond Community College will create a seamless path for aspiring teachers to become part of the state’s teacher pipeline. The initiative is designed to recruit teachers who have a desire to serve their communities. Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings and RCC President Dale McInnis launched the Growing Your Own Teachers partnership during a signing event at RCC this week.

Two graduate counseling programs earn re-accreditation
UNC Pembroke has been granted extension of accreditation of two of its graduate counseling programs. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Professional School Counseling programs received accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Both programs received an eight-year extension through March 2029. Both programs offer a hybrid approach to course delivery which combines face-to-face classroom instruction with online activities.
Alumnus Justin Villanueva admitted to pharmacy program at UNC Chapel Hill
Justin Villanueva, a recent UNC Pembroke graduate, has been accepted into the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Villanueva earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in Fall 2020. He credits UNCP’s small, rigorous classes and outstanding professors for “igniting the spark of flame” within him to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
UNCP Day of Giving scheduled for March 2 set to break records
Next month, UNCP hopes to break all previous records to support student scholarship and achievement. 11th annual international juried exhibit on display at UNCP
The 11th annual international juried competition “Hope” is currently on display at the UNC Pembroke Art Department Gallery. The exhibit features work by professional artists from all over the country and will be on display through March 18. The artists are Julie Cavaz, Raluca Iancu, Julie Ann Nagle, Kate Hooray Osmond, Yvonne Petkus, Virginia Shepley and Janelle Washington.
College of Business and Economics ranked among Best 1-Year Online MBAs
College of Business and Economics at UNC Pembroke began offering an accelerated version of its online MBA program in 2017, allowing students to complete the program in one year.
