ResNet
How to Connect to ResNet
- Chromecast
- Routers
- Virtual Assistants, such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Google Nest
- Wireless Printers (can only be used with a cable and the wireless capability turned off)
Note: The uncpgamenet network is available only in University Housing residence halls.
- Try connecting to BraveWifi using your (BraveWeb) username and password. However, not all gaming systems/streaming devices will work on BraveWifi because of the security type.
- If yours will not work on BraveWifi, connect to uncpgamenet. The security is open (no password).
- If you want to connect your gaming system to ResNet via a wired port:
- Courtyard Apartments has ports in each room.
- In Oak and Cypress, there are wireless access points throughout the buildings and you can connect to wired ports labeled LAN1, LAN 2 and LAN 3 on the bottom of the access point.
- In Pine, North and Belk, there are wireless access points throughout the building and you can connect to ports on the access points labeled 1, 2, 3 and 4.
- If you don’t have an access point in your suite and would like a wired port for your gaming system, email helpdesk@uncp.edu. Include your name, building, room number and phone number. We will contact you with a time and date to make a wired port active in your room.
Remember, DoIT does not support gaming systems and other media devices. Gaming system vendor sites detail how to get to and manage your wireless settings for the devices. If you need additional assistance, please contact the manufacturer or search the Internet for instructions.
1. What network cable should I use for a wired connection?
To connect the computer to the wall jack, use an Ethernet cable rated for Category 6 for network use -- do not attempt to use a telephone cord.
2. I am trying to use a router, but my computer cannot get a network connection.
Routers are not allowed on the UNCP network. Also, Chromecasts do not work on the network. Wireless printers can only be used with a printer cable connected and the wireless capability turned off.
3. I cannot connect to the Internet.
Please try the following methods:
-
Reboot the Computer
Many problems will resolve themselves if you restart the computer. If rebooting doesn't work, shut down the computer completely, wait 60 seconds and turn it back on. -
Check to make sure the network adapter is enabled.
There is usually a key on the keyboard or a switch on the side or front of the laptop that can be pressed or moved to turn the wireless adapter on. -
Check the IPv4 Address, Default Gateway and DNS Server
Right-click the network icon located in the system tray near the clock > Click Open Network and Sharing Center > Click BraveWifi or Local Area Connection as appropriate for your connection > Click Details to verify that the IPv4 Address, Default Gateway and DNS Server all begin with 10 or 152. If they don’t, click here for Windows 10 Network Configuration. - Try uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter
Navigate to Device Manager, click the arrow next to Network adapters and then right-click the wireless or wired card (as appropriate for the connection you are trying to use). Click Uninstall, then OK. Click Action from the menu at the top, then Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the network adapter. Try to access the Internet
4. I brought a computer from home. Can DoIT staff add memory and configure the system?
No. DoIT does not support student-owned computers. DoIT provides maintenance and repair services only for university-owned computers. It is your responsibility to maintain your computer system.
5. My computer is running slowly and I think there may be a virus on it. Can I get help with that?
Assistance is limited to network and Internet connectivity issues. DoIT does not remove viruses or malware from student computers. If you don’t have an antivirus, you may be able to download one and scan your computer. AMP (Advanced Malware Protection) is available for download by students.
