TRIO
Congress established a series of programs to help low-income Americans enter college, graduate and move on to participate fully in America's economic and social life. These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and are referred to as the TRIO Programs (initially just three programs). The TRIO Program at UNC Pembroke is Student Support Services (SSS). This program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to provide services to first-generation college students, low-income students and students with disabilities who are seeking their bachelor's degree from UNC Pembroke.

TRIO SSS STEM Application
TRIO Student Support Services: STEM is a new program designed to increase the academic
performance, academic persistence, and degree completion rates of STEM and Health
Science majors at UNCP. The project objectives are: 74% of SSS-STEM participants will
persist from one academic year to the next or graduate with a college degree from
UNC Pembroke, 42% of SSS-STEM participants will remain in good academic standing,
and 45% of new participants served each year will graduate from UNC Pembroke with
a college degree within six (6) years.

at $272,364 per budget year.
