Fees FAQ

Learn more about UNCP fees.

Fees will be assessed at a per-credit-hour rate for all students. Student fees will be charged based on the student’s declared degree program of record and will be capped at the per semester, full-time enrollment levels of 12 credit hours for undergraduate students and nine (9) credit hours for graduate students.

A student’s fee rate is based on their classification (graduate or undergraduate) and program (on-campus vs. distance education) as listed with the Office of the Registrar.

  • Students enrolled in on-campus programs will be charged using the on-campus fee structure regardless of how their courses are delivered. For example, a student enrolled in an on-campus program who takes an online course(s) will be charged using the on-campus fee rate.
  • Students declared in a distance education program will be charged using the distance education fee structure (SGA, security, educational technology fee).
  • Students declared in a distance education program who choose to take on-campus courses will be charged using the on-campus fee rates for the on-campus courses and the distance education fee rates for the online courses.
Undergraduate Fees Fee Description
Student Activity Fees These fees provide funds for non-academic student services and for the maintenance and operation of facilities used in conjunction with those services. Included are funds to operate student union and intramural facilities, and funds that provide for student organizations, yearbooks and student activities and programs.
Health Service Fees Health Services fees finance health and medical services for students, including the maintenance and operation of the student health service center.
Debt Service Fees Under the UNC System policy for the establishment of fees adopted by the Board of Governors in 1993 and revised in 2003, fees for the retirement of indebtedness are approved at the time a project is approved and established at the time that debt is incurred. Indebtedness fees, once established, remain in effect until the debt is retired.

This fee provides operating support for the university’s athletic department and programs. This provides support for equipment and uniform purchases.
Education & Technology These fees provide for specialized instructional supplies and services and for scientific and information technology equipment.
Campus Security Fees The 2013-14 UNC Campus Security Initiatives Report included high-priority recommendations for new initiatives, staffing and security measures designed to benefit the UNC System institutions. The board approved this fee in 2015. This fee provides funding for several of the recommendations made by the UNC Board of Governors’ 2013-14 UNC [system-wide] Campus Security Initiative report which include, but are not limited to, (1) campus police officer and telecommunicator compensation; (2) highly qualified and trained investigators and hearing officers for reports of serious offenses, such as sexual violence; (3) Title IX and Clery Act compliance coordination; (4) substance abuse counselors, case managers and/or other counseling staff; and (5) system-level safety and security training, coordination and audit functions.
Student Gov't Association This fee supports UNC System-Level organizations that champion students' concerns and ensure the affordability and accessibility of quality education today and in the future.
