Tuition and Fees

The online program tuition and fees below apply only to students who have declared a major in the Distance Education/Online Programs on record with the registrar. Additional fees may apply for specific services or special program requirements.

Undergraduate Rates

The following distance education costs apply to undergraduate students in distance learning programs. These rates are based on residency status and credit hours taken per semester. Students who maintain a North Carolina residency receive a discounted rate, while non-resident students follow the standard out-of-state rate schedule.

Graduate students participating in distance education programs are subject to tuition rates based on residency and enrollment status. These rates are structured per credit hour and are differentiated for North Carolina residents and non-residents.

Graduate students enrolled in Accelerated Online Programs (OAP) pay specialized rates designed for flexibility and affordability in an accelerated format. These online education fees vary based on residency and the number of credit hours taken each semester. These OAP rates enable students to complete their programs faster and are only available for declared majors within eligible OAP pathways.

Undergraduate - Distance Rates Per Credit Hour

General Fees: 

General Fees consist of two fees - Educational Technology and Campus Security.

Educational Technology - Provide specialized instructional supplies and scientific and information technology equipment services. 

Campus Security - The 2013-14 UNC Campus Security Initiatives Report included high-priority recommendations for new initiatives, staffing and security measures designed to benefit the UNC System institutions. The board approved this fee in 2015. This fee provides funding for several of the recommendations made by the UNC Board of Governors' 2013-14 UNC [system-wide] Campus Security Initiative report, which include, but are not limited to:

  1. Campus police officer and telecommunicator compensation.
  2. Highly qualified and trained investigators and hearing officers for reports of serious offenses, such as sexual violence.
  3. Title IX and Clery Act compliance coordination.
  4. Substance abuse counselors, case managers and/or other counseling staff.
  5. System-level safety and security training, coordination and audit functions.
Assoc Stu Gov't Fee: 

This fee supports UNC System-level organizations that champion students' concerns and ensure the affordability and accessibility of quality education today and in the future.

Other Required Fees

Student Wellness Fee: 
AlcoholEdu for College and Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates are online learning modules. These learning modules are non-opinionated, science-based alcohol abuse and sexual assault prevention courses. This fee is a one-time fee for all new undergraduate students.

First-Year Initiatives: 
UNCP's Center for Student Success offers various programs and initiatives for first-year students to help with their transition and success as students. For more information, visit our Summer Bridge page.

Business Passport Fee:  
The Passport to Professional Success Program (the Passport Program) aims to enable business and accounting students to become more professional in interacting with their colleagues, employers and other professionals in their field. For more information, visit our Passport to Professional Success page. This fee is only charged to students majoring in business or accounting.

Student Success Initiatives Fee:  
All degree-seeking sophomores, juniors and seniors will be charged a $25 student success initiatives fee for each semester they are enrolled, which will be charged to a student's account. This fee also provides the opportunity to implement new and/or revitalize initiatives such as but not limited to training and development for academic advisors, Braves Boost, Brave Finish, sophomore programming, re-established the Supplemental Instruction, re-establishing academic counseling and expanding services to students on academic probation. 

Note: If you are enrolled in distance education classes requiring proctored exams, you are responsible for any charges levied by a remote location, including identity verification. The student must pay those fees directly to the proctor or facility and are not charged to your student account.

Some or all instructional formats for all or part of the 2024-2025 academic year may change due to the public health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As has always been the case, tuition and fees are charged at the beginning of the semester and will remain in place regardless of any changes in instructional format. Tuition and fees will not be refunded if the instructional format changes for any part of the 2024-2025 academic year.
